Part 26: The Glittering Port
Update 21: The Glittering PortOlivine City
Olivine City: The Port Closest to Foreign Lands
(Combination of olive and vine, or the mineral olivine, which has a light green colour)
Asagi City: The port town closest to distant foreign lands.
(From 浅黄 asagi (light yellow), or 浅葱 asagi (light blue))
: And if it's on the sea, there are bound to be fish! I've fished here for 30 years. Would you like to face the sea and fish?
New rod for a new good time.
"a new angler!"
: They go wherever there is water.
Aah, it's good to heal again. New city to explore, let's see what we can find.
Next to the center is a cafe. Good, I'm hungry, haven't eaten for 3 years.
"lightweights!"
: They don't have the power to move boulders aside. Here, use this and teach them STRENGTH!
Here's an excellent Normal move. If a Pokemon was using Headbutt, they can probably use this now. Or maybe another Pokemon can make use of it. I'll teach it to Churchill later, I don't right now for whatever reason. Strength (Kairiki: Super Strength) is a Normal move with 80BP, 15PP and 100% accuracy. It's a good, consistent move that is pretty handy to have around.
: I'm so proud of my buff bod!
Take a quick trip to the Mart and see the fourth mail? Third? I forget. There's only five sold in stores anyway.
: If you have KRABBY, would you trade it for my VOLTORB?
Sure, we fished one up near Goldenrod.
Got a ball bomb from Tim.
"doing great!"
That's good, it was looking a little lonely.
This orb is alright, but it's a bit of an uphill battle to make it useful.
"GLITTER LIGHTHOUSE"
Well they said the Gym Leader was at the top, so let's see if we can convince her to fight.
Olivine Lighthouse
This is a pretty uniquely designed "dungeon", being all circular and having holes in the floor. Like a real lighthouse!
No more games.
"LIGHTHOUSE lit."
: But I hear that it's sick now and can't be cured by ordinary medicine.
"for a good fight!"
There's gonna be a fair few battles here, but it's all good experience.
One more level and Helios will have caught up.
"lost in a while!"
: Hey, give me your phone number. You'd be fun in battle, so I'll call you when I get stronger!
Well I've been keeping on top of my phone list, so sure, sounds good.
(We'll more than likely never battle again)
Think this guy needs to fuckin' chill.
I'm concerned about Gym badges, baby!
: I want to visit the sick POKéMON, but I can't get up there...
"MON. I wish to battle with you."
And I, you.
Well if you require a rematch, I'll be sure to not give it you.
"like ONIX."
Ugh, another Rock Gym Leader. Yawn.
Hmm, two ways to go. We'll head down first.
"the POKéMON here."
: She won't even smile these days.
Bubblebeam (Baburu Kōsen) is a Water move with 65BP, 20PP and 100% accuracy, with a 10% chance of lowering Speed by one stage. Not as widely available now that it's no longer a TM.
And that's Helios caught up, only two updates later. Neat.
Aww, yeah, it's sick, you say? Wicked.
Alright, let's use our other team members again.
I agree, Helios has been wrecking.
HP: 65 | ATK: 90 | DEF: 65 | SP.ATK: 61 | SP.DEF: 61 | SPD: 100 | TOTAL: 442
#014: Fearow
"CIANWOOD."
: Well, since I'm a loser, I'll FLY across the sea...
Swagger (Ibaru) is a Normal status move with 15PP and 90% accuracy that raises the opponent's Attack by two stages and confuses it. If it's already confused, or protected by Safeguard, the Attack raise will still happen. It's definitely an interesting move and can work for you if the confusion hits, but if not, then you've just boosted your opponent. Good going.
A hidden item right next to the TM and then a Rare Candy just sitting around. Good stuff.
: I mean to bring her back with me. Nobody had better get in my way!
It's nice to use all of my team again, just prefer the variety instead of grinding one Pokemon up.
: I'll pray for the POKéMON, so JASMINE can come back to the GYM.
Oh, uh, hello.
: Sailors are both kind and strong. How about you?
Now this is just awkward.
"visit the GYM."
: The GYM LEADER's POKéMON type has changed without me noticing.
Seems a lot of people are here for Jasmine. That's cool.
Like seriously a lot of people.
It's how I take down all he Gym leaders.
"compassionate."
Well this generation is when Gym Leaders started doing stuff that wasn't just standing in their Gyms, so that's appreciated.
Finally made it to the top. What a climb.
: ...But it suddenly got sick... It's gasping for air... ...I understand that there is a wonderful PHARMACY in CIANWOOD... But that's across the sea... And I can't leave AMPHY unattended... ...May I ask you to get some medicine for me? Please?
Wellllll, maybe we can heal this sick Pokemon if it means we can get a Gym battle. Sure, let's go for it.
And back to the bottom we go. Next stop is Cianwood.
Olivine City
But how can we not get a new rod and not try it out? It's fishing time!
...you can still find Magikarp. However, since they're level 20, they'll evolve immediately and actually become useful. We did just get a Rare Candy from the Lighthouse also... just saying.
And they're useful to give you just enough experience to level up. But let's find some actual new Pokemon.
HP: 30 | ATK: 45 | DEF: 55 | SP.ATK: 70 | SP.DEF: 55 | SPD: 75 | TOTAL: 340
#167: Staryu
Well that's annoying. Recover (Jikosaisei: Self-regeneration) is a Normal status move with 20PP that restores 50% of their health. When played right, this makes you a bit unkillable, so yeah, I'd say it's a good move.
When it stopped getting back its health, it stayed in just fine. The reason why I don't use Hypnosis right away is so I can potentially show off what the opponent can do, so we can hopefully see new stuff.
: Thanks for using my STORAGE SYSTEM. That last POKéMON you sent filled your BOX up. You'll have to switch BOXES if you want to catch more POKéMON. Bye now!
Well that was convenient since I needed to change the time to catch this fun Pokemon.
Good thing about these non evolving Pokemon is that I don't have to worry about when I'm going to evolve them!
Alright, last place to check out in this update is the port.
Uh, not to actually go anywhere, but to fish up some new Pokemon!
HP: 30 | ATK: 65 | DEF: 100 | SP.ATK: 45 | SP.DEF: 25 | SPD: 40 | TOTAL: 305
#169: Shellder
There's one more to fish up. You know what it be.
HP: 75 | ATK: 38 | DEF: 38 | SP.ATK: 56 | SP.DEF: 56 | SPD: 67 | TOTAL: 330
#174: Chinchou
All these fish, so little time.
Oh, this sounds interesting. We'll check it out next time.
